Ahn Nae-sang Reacts to Kim Kyu-ri’s Casting in “The Pact”: “Is She Crazy? No Sane Person Could Do This”

At the press conference for The Pact (directed by Kim Nam-kyun) held on the morning of May 29, Ahn Nae-sang shared these thoughts.
The Pact, an occult political thriller, depicts the story of a woman who seeks to seize power through mystical forces and the intense struggle of those uncovering the massive truth hidden behind her actions.
The film has garnered significant attention since its teaser release, particularly due to its setting, which evokes former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife, Kim Keon-hee.

Playing the role of Joo Sung-hwan, Ahn Nae-sang remarked, “The script was so outrageous that I wondered if it was even readable. I’ve lived my life detached from the world, not watching the news or caring about politics. When I read the script, it listed absurd, unbelievable, and impossible stories, so I initially didn’t want to do it,” he said with a hearty laugh.
Ahn Nae-sang continued, “When I asked who was playing Yoon Ji-hee, they told me it was Kim Kyu-ri. I thought, ‘Is she crazy? No sane person could take this on!’” Recalling the moment, he added, “I was told it was being produced by the YouTube channel Open Sympathy TV. As I went through the process of questioning whether this was ‘fact or fiction,’ I was quite shocked. That made me want to take it on.”

He further explained, “Especially for someone like me, who’s been walled off from the world, with martial law breaking out and the world in chaos, seeing people my daughter’s age holding flashing lights and shouting made me feel I should do something too, instead of just watching. This opportunity gave me a chance to add my voice, so I decided to do The Pact.”
Ahn Nae-sang humorously noted, “Oddly enough, the filming wrapped in just a month. We started shooting in mid-March, and now it’s set to release on June 2, which feels absurd. To me, The Pact is an outrageous film.”
The Pact is scheduled to be released on June 2.
